My first submission to OSWD, in XHTML 1.0 Strict and a pure CSS layout. This is a very simple 'one column layout with a sidebar' design using the well-known negative margins technique. This design is influenced by one of the designs of Andreas Viklund, called andrea08. I decided not to overdo it, which is why I have not added any customized graphics or other elements which will make it difficult for you to work with this design. Other than web design, I'm into professional remixing and have managed to rank at 32 in a recent international competition. Modifying this design should be easy. But before anything else, like the pro's say, plan your content in as much detail as possible. Get into every jot and title that your site will hold, and then decide what goes where. So that's two steps: [1] Decide on content and [2] Decide positions and placements. As soon as you have done this, you'll realize that your workflow is more streamlined than before, and you'll save a tremendous amount of time.
Note on the two columns: The sidebar can expand as much as you need it to, just keep adding to it. If the contents of this column exceeds the height of the sidebar, the lines below the sidebar's height will occupy the entire width of the div called "main".
Absolutely no credits are necessary for using this design, although a mention would make my day ;-) Feel free to change this design any way you want to, it can serve as the foundation for very complex pages. Add things, remove things, let your creativity flow! I'll bet you can make this design a lot better with good graphics and intelligent modifications.
